Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information the Tameside Badminton League holds, why, who else handles it on our behalf, and what you can ask us to do with it. The league is run by volunteers, and this site is how we organise fixtures, record results and keep in touch with clubs.
Last updated 10 October 2026.
Who we are
The Tameside Badminton League is responsible for the information described here. To ask a question or exercise any of your rights, use the contact form or email results@tameside-badminton.co.uk.
If you play in the league
Your club registers you with the league. We hold:
- your name, gender, club and team, and your order in the team's nominated list;
- an email address and phone number, if you or your club give us one;
- any role you hold, such as captain, club secretary or match secretary.
We use this to check players are eligible, to record results, to produce league tables and playing statistics, and to contact you about league business such as fixtures, results and club administration. Email addresses and phone numbers are stored encrypted.
Your club's officers who manage it on this site can see the email address and phone number held for each player registered to their club, so they can contact their own players. They cannot see other clubs' players. The league's results secretary can see them for every club.
Results and what is published
When you play a league match we record who you played with and against and the score of each game. Results, with players' names, are published on this site and form the league's permanent record, so they are kept after you stop playing. From them we calculate playing statistics, including a player rating; these are shown to people logged in to the site.
Captains submit a photograph or scan of the paper scorecard with each result. It carries the players' names and the captains' signatures. We keep it privately as the record of that result. We can use Google's image-reading service to fill in the result form from the photograph; a photograph uploaded for this is kept even if the result is then entered by hand.
We post results, fixtures and league tables to the league's Facebook and Instagram accounts. These name teams and clubs.
If you are a club officer
The names, email addresses and phone numbers of club secretaries, match secretaries and team captains are shown to people logged in to the site, so other clubs can arrange matches. Members of the public can send a message to a club through the contact form. They see the club's name, not your contact details.
If you log in
Logging in is handled by Auth0, which holds your login email address and password; we never see your password. The login service is shared with the Stockport & District Badminton League's website, so one account works on both. We use your login email to recognise you and show you the pages your role allows. We keep a session cookie so you stay logged in.
If you contact us
When you use the contact form we receive your name, email address and message, and pass the message to the right league or club officer. To protect the site from spam we log each submission, including the IP address it came from.
How the site is monitored and improved
- Google Analytics tells us which pages are used and how people find them. It uses cookies. If you are logged in, it is told your account's internal id. Google keeps this data for up to 14 months.
- Site analytics (PostHog) counts page visits so we can see which pages are used. It stores nothing on your device and uses no cookies. If you are logged in, each visit is tagged with your account's internal id, not your name.
- Session recordings (PostHog). When a logged-in captain enters a result, we record how the result form is used: the pages, clicks and what is typed into it. This lets us see where the form is confusing or the scorecard photo is not read, and fix it. Recordings include the names and scores on the form. They are only made on the result-entry pages, only for logged-in users, use no cookies, and are deleted after about a month.
- Error reports (Sentry). When something goes wrong on the site, we receive a technical report so we can fix it. It identifies your account by an internal id, not by name. Reports are deleted after 30 days.
Our legal basis
We use your information because running the league needs it. In data protection terms, that is our legitimate interest in organising a league its members have joined. That covers registering players, recording and publishing results, contacting players and officers, keeping the site secure and improving it.
Who handles your information for us
We do not sell your information or share it for marketing. These services store or process it on our behalf:
- Google Cloud and Firebase: hosting the site (London), and reading scorecard photographs;
- Supabase: the league database (London);
- Amazon Web Services: storing scorecard photographs (Ireland);
- Mailjet: sending league email (EU);
- Auth0: logins;
- Google Analytics, PostHog (EU) and Sentry (Germany): as described above;
- Google Maps on club pages and the rules page, and Google reCAPTCHA on the contact form;
- Meta: the league's Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Some of these companies may process information outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on the UK's adequacy regulations or on standard contractual clauses that protect it.
How long we keep it
- Results, including players' names, and scorecard photographs: permanently, as the league's record.
- Contact details: while you are registered with a club in the league. Ask us and we will remove them sooner.
- Analytics, recordings and error reports: for the periods given above.
Junior players
Junior players are registered by their club in the same way as adults, and their results are published in the same way. A parent or guardian can exercise any of the rights below on a junior player's behalf.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or stop using it. Some requests we cannot fully meet. For example, results are the league's record and are not removed when a player leaves, but we will always explain why.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
